FAM actively monitors, analyzes and engages in legislative and regulatory issues impacting our industry.  This includes submitting written comments on proposed regulatory initiatives and testifying before legislative committees in support or opposition to legislation.

Key Advocacy Subject Areas

Energy:

FAM consistently files as a formal intervenor in electric rate cases filed by Michigan’s major utilities (DTE Energy & Consumers Energy).  Our key objective is to minimize increases in both general industrial and special metal melting tariffs by advocating for lower-cost generation mixes and minimizing guaranteed return on equity.

Environment:

With Michigan being delegated EPA authority through its state implementation plan, FAM actively monitors and engages in environmental legislative and regulatory proposals impacting foundries that may exceed federal requirements.  Key subject areas include air, water, solid waste, and environmental remediation.

Taxes & Economic Development:

FAM tracks and engages in tax and economic development policy initiatives which highlight and support long-term economic growth for Michigan foundries, particularly when elected officials seek to offer significant subsidies for unproven businesses.

Labor & Employment:

FAM actively monitors and engages in labor and employment legislative and regulatory initiatives impacting employee health, safety (MIOSHA) and benefits (unemployment, workers compensation, paid sick time).
